WHAT DO YOU COLLECT?

I collect figures I like. This includes, but is not limited to: Wolverines, Datas, strong female characters, main X-Men characters, well sculpted figures whether or not I know the source material, figures that catch my eye, figures that look like they'd be fun to play with, figures that push my weird buttons.

The only thing limiting me is my own preferences. My ideal collection will be one in which I like every figure.

WHEN DID YOU START COLLECTING AND WHY?

I can't really pinpoint when I started collecting. In 1978 I bought my first Star Wars figures, but because I was "too old", I didn't play with them. However, I wasn't really collecting action figures, I was collecting "Star Wars Stuff", and the figures were just more "Star Wars Junk" (according to my mother :-).

I've always bought toys for fun, but I didn't become focused on collecting action figures until sometime in 1994. That's when I decided that I had too much junk, and I probably ought to focus things so I'd have something interesting in the end, not just piles of plastic ants and Whizzer tops.

HOW HARD IS IT TO FIND THE TOYS YOU WANT?

If you are patient, it is reasonable to expect that you can find most things here. Patience is the key word: we routinely get figures weeks to months after they are first sighted on rtafd. Star Wars can take 3 more months to show up here. But eventually they do arrive, and when they do, with a little diligence you can find them.

I trade for figures or do cost+shipping via the newsgroups or through people I know via the newsgroups.

WHAT ARE YOUR FEELINGS ON SCALPING?
WHAT IS "SCALPING" TO YOU?
HAVE YOU EVER BOUGHT FROM A SCALPER?
WOULD YOU?

Scalping: removing product that is available via normal retail outlets to mark it up and sell it for a profit.

The center of what I consider to be scalping is making less product available at retail. That means buying it at Target, TRU, etc. If you're going through a distributor, or direct from the manufacturer, you are making more product available, and you can charge what you like for it - heck, you're then a merchant, that's what merchants do. I may think it is overpriced and not buy from you, but it's your stuff.

I don't buy from scalpers. It's just not worth it to me. There is nothing I have to have badly enough to pay a scalper.

WHAT ARE YOUR OTHER HOBBIES/INTERESTS?

In no particular order: gardening, needlework, cooking, I'm getting into refinishing furniture, MUSHing, traveling when I have the time, reading (all kinds of books), collecting gumball machine superballs, making jams/jellies/pickles
