Figment & Baby
This page is dedicated to Figment, the sweetest, most wonderful cat I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. (And I've known many!)Figment was diagnosed in 1998 with mammary cancer. Two separate surgeries to remove her mammary glands prolonged her life for another two years, but ultimately did not save her. The vet discovered the tumor in her chest cavity the day after Christmas 2000, and she died quietly in her bed less than a week later.
Spaying her would have greatly reduced her risk of getting this type of cancer. Maybe it wouldn't have made a difference, but maybe it would have saved us the heartbreak of having to bury an otherwise-healthy 10-year-old cat. I often wonder...
Think seriously about spaying your cats. PETA has more information (and a hilarious video) on this site. If these words save even one kitty from Figment's fate, then I can at least know that something good came of her death.
